As digital currency adoption breaks further into the financial mainstream, new data highlights a fundamental shift in how modern enterprises view corporate liquidity, payroll execution, and international trade settlement.

According to a comprehensive new report released by payments infrastructure firm Cybrid, business utilization of stablecoins is accelerating at a remarkable pace. The study found that 42% of businesses surveyed are already actively using stablecoins to handle cross-border payments. Looking ahead, an overwhelming 88% of respondents indicated that they are either likely or very likely to integrate stablecoins into their financial operations within the coming year. Meanwhile, traditional payment rails are increasingly being left behind, with only 2% of surveyed executives identifying themselves as committed users of legacy banking systems for their primary transaction needs.

The primary catalyst behind this aggressive migration is clear: dramatic financial efficiency. Businesses currently leveraging stablecoins reported average cross-border payment cost savings of 35%. For larger enterprises operating at scale—specifically those processing more than $100 million in monthly payment volume—the savings are even more pronounced, averaging up to 47%. These substantial reductions in fees and settlement times are redefining operational budgets for multinational firms and mid-sized enterprises alike.

This corporate momentum arrives as the broader global stablecoin market cap hovers at $307.64 billion, according to data from CoinGecko. The market continues to be anchored by established heavyweights, led by Tether’s USDT with a market capitalization of $184.7 billion, followed by Circle’s USDC at $73.51 billion. Furthermore, the regulatory environment is actively shifting to accommodate this growth. Fuelled by recent legislative milestones, GENIUS Act-compliant stablecoins have surpassed a market cap of $76 billion. This landmark legislation established the very first federal regulatory framework for payment stablecoins in the United States, providing a clearer legal foundation for risk-averse corporate treasuries.

The Cybrid report is based on a detailed survey of 468 executives and business leaders conducted between April 28 and May 4. Participants hailed from key industry sectors including technology, financial services, and e-commerce across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The respondent pool featured a high-level cross-section of corporate leadership, including C-suite executives, finance and treasury managers, and specialized payments and operations leaders.

Varied Users Look for Regulatory Clarity to Gain Confidence

As corporations explore the utility of digital dollars, use cases have diversified well beyond simple speculative trading. Payroll and contractor disbursements emerged as the most common stablecoin use case among survey respondents. This was closely followed by supplier payments, customer payment collections, investment and yield generation strategies, general vendor payments, and overarching treasury and liquidity management frameworks.

Despite the clear financial advantages and growing adoption rates, corporate leaders remain vocal about what is needed to foster absolute confidence in digital asset integration. Regulatory clarity stands out as the single most critical factor that would encourage businesses to expand their stablecoin usage. An overwhelming 71% of respondents identified clear regulatory guidelines as more important than trusted infrastructure providers or the seamless integration with existing enterprise software systems.

This emphasis on regulatory backing underscores the cautious yet forward-looking mindset of corporate finance departments. While the efficiency gains are undeniable, compliance and legal certainty remain paramount for institutional decision-makers operating under strict fiduciary standards.

The broader market infrastructure is rapidly evolving to meet these compliance and operational demands, with separate industry data pointing to the exact same structural trend. In June, digital payments infrastructure provider Paybis reported that business customers accounted for nearly 98% of the stablecoin payout volume processed through its platform during the first four months of 2026. This represents a staggering leap from just 36% in 2023, illustrating how rapidly enterprise clients have outpaced retail users in terms of transaction volume.

Paybis also highlighted research from management consultancy McKinsey, which estimated that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the massive $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume recorded throughout 2025.

Companies Expand Infrastructure for Stablecoin Payments

To accommodate this surging commercial demand, traditional financial institutions and digital asset firms alike are aggressively expanding their technological infrastructure. Financial service providers are moving quickly to bridge the gap between traditional banking and blockchain-based assets.

In May, Falcon Finance debuted its dollar-backed stablecoin, fUSD, utilizing Anchorage Digital Bank’s federally regulated issuance platform. The product is specifically designed to target institutional trading, collateral management, and corporate treasury workflows, offering institutions a compliant bridge into the digital asset economy.

Further cementing this institutional integration, BNY expanded its digital asset custody platform to support Circle’s USDC. This strategic development allows institutional clients of the historic bank to securely store, transfer, mint, and redeem the stablecoin directly through established custody workflows, removing traditional friction points for major financial players looking to enter the ecosystem.

As regulatory frameworks mature, cost-saving pressures mount, and institutional-grade custody solutions become widely available, stablecoins are shedding their niche status. For modern enterprises navigating the complexities of global commerce, the transition from legacy payment rails to blockchain-based rails is no longer a matter of if, but when.

The corporate landscape is rapidly pivoting toward digital assets, with business use of stablecoins poised for an unprecedented surge over the next 12 months.
