Hyundai Motor Units Complete Cross-Border Treasury Transfer Using Tether’s USDT on Avalanche

Automotive giant Hyundai Motor has taken a significant step toward modernizing its international financial operations, successfully completing a pilot cross-border treasury transfer using Tether’s USDT stablecoin. The transaction, valued at $20,000, was executed between the company’s United States and Mexican corporate units, leveraging the Avalanche blockchain to settle the funds in approximately seven minutes.

According to details provided by Tether, the proof-of-concept transaction involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, transferring the stablecoin across the border to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the digital asset back into United States dollars. The entire transfer, execution, and verification workflow took roughly seven minutes from start to finish. This marked a dramatic reduction in processing time compared to traditional cross-border bank transfers, which typically require anywhere from three to four hours—and sometimes multiple business days—to clear through legacy correspondent banking networks.

The successful pilot relied on specialized technological and operational frameworks. Tether noted that the cross-border transaction utilized Axiym’s settlement infrastructure. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card designed the overarching remittance structure and oversaw the rigorous regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the proof of concept.

The primary objective of the pilot was to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be seamlessly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without requiring disruptive changes to internal governance, compliance protocols, or accounting processes. Following the success of the initial transfer, the companies plan to advance the initiative to a subsequent phase. This next stage will expand testing to additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as the corporate partners continue to evaluate broader enterprise treasury workflows and long-term viability.

Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case

The initiative by Hyundai Motor’s regional units highlights a broader, accelerating trend across the global corporate landscape, where corporate treasury has rapidly emerged as a critical use case for stablecoins. Digital asset firms and enterprise software providers are increasingly rolling out products specifically engineered to support real-time cross-border payments, optimized liquidity management, and efficient intercompany settlements.

This institutional push is reshaping how major companies interact with financial infrastructure. In April, enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its corporate treasury platform. This collaboration was designed to empower corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances alongside traditional cash positions within a unified interface. By leveraging the integration, enterprises can settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, unlocking access to vital liquidity outside of traditional banking hours while maintaining their existing treasury workflows, risk management frameworks, and internal approval controls.

Market data underscores the surging demand for these capabilities. A business report published this month by Bitso Business revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This substantial growth was primarily propelled by corporate demand for real-time settlement capabilities, efficient treasury management, and reliable cross-border liquidity solutions. Furthermore, the report highlighted that more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during the period were traditional financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment providers seeking to modernize their service offerings.

Broader business surveys similarly point to rapidly deepening enterprise adoption of blockchain-based settlement tools. A comprehensive report published in June by Paybis indicated that 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international B2B payments or actively plan to implement them within the next twelve months. Citing extensive research from management consulting firm McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in total global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This institutional momentum coincides with a period of sustained expansion for the overall stablecoin market. According to data tracking from DefiLlama, the total market capitalization of the stablecoin sector has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing an increase of roughly 21.5% compared to the $257.1 billion recorded a year earlier. Within this expanding market, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its position as the largest stablecoin by total market value, serving as the foundational asset for major corporate trials and international liquidity transfers like the one recently executed by Hyundai Motor’s American and Mexican divisions.
