Hyundai completes USDT treasury settlement pilot between US and Mexico

According to details provided by Tether, the operational workflow required Hyundai Motor America to convert standard corporate funds into USDT. Once converted, the stablecoin was transferred across the border to Hyundai Motor Mexico, where it was converted back into US dollars. The entire transfer, execution, and verification process took approximately seven minutes. By comparison, traditional cross-border banking wires for similar international transactions typically require anywhere from three to four hours, and often longer depending on intermediary banking relationships, time zones, and compliance bottlenecks.

The successful proof of concept was built on a collaborative framework involving multiple specialized entities. Tether noted that the pilot utilized Axiym’s settlement infrastructure to facilitate the digital asset transfer. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card designed the overarching remittance structure and took the lead in overseeing the strict regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the initiative safely within corporate governance guardrails.

This initial test was deliberately designed to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be smoothly integrated into existing enterprise treasury operations without forcing companies to alter their established governance, compliance, or accounting workflows. Building on the positive outcome of this initial phase, the participating companies plan to expand their testing parameters. The next phase will scale up evaluations to additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as the organizations continue to assess the broader viability of stablecoin-powered enterprise treasury workflows.

Corporate treasury emerges as key stablecoin use case

Corporate treasury management has rapidly emerged as a critical focal point for stablecoin issuers and blockchain infrastructure providers. Financial technology firms are increasingly rolling out institutional-grade products specifically designed to streamline cross-border payments, optimize liquidity management, and facilitate frictionless intercompany settlements.

This institutional push is reshaping how major software providers approach corporate finance. In April, treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This strategic collaboration allows corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances side-by-side with traditional cash positions. Furthermore, it enables companies to settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time while unlocking access to liquidity outside of traditional banking hours, all while maintaining their existing enterprise treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Market data underscores a broader industry surge toward blockchain-based financial solutions. A report published this month by Bitso Business revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This dramatic growth was propelled by rising corporate demand for real-time settlement, efficient treasury management, and reliable cross-border liquidity solutions. Highlighting the institutional shift, more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during the period were established financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Broader business surveys similarly point to rapidly accelerating enterprise adoption. A June report published by Paybis indicated that 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international B2B payments or actively plan to implement them within the next 12 months. Citing research conducted by McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This expanding enterprise footprint coincides with a broader expansion of the overall stablecoin economy. According to data from DefiLlama, the total market capitalization of the stablecoin sector has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion. This represents a robust increase of roughly 21.5% compared to the $257.1 billion recorded a year earlier, with Tether’s USDT maintaining its position as the largest stablecoin by total market valuation.
