Hyundai Motor Drives Enterprise Adoption Forward With Successful Cross-Border Stablecoin Treasury Pilot

Automotive giant Hyundai Motor has successfully executed a landmark cross-border treasury transfer using blockchain technology, signaling a significant step forward for corporate adoption of digital assets. In a collaborative proof of concept between its United States and Mexican corporate units, the company settled a $20,000 transaction using Tether’s USDT stablecoin on the Avalanche blockchain, achieving transfer and verification speeds that vastly outpace traditional legacy banking infrastructure.

According to details provided by stablecoin issuer Tether, the transaction involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, transferring the digital asset across the border to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the stablecoin back into traditional US dollars. The entire end-to-end transfer and verification process took approximately seven minutes. By comparison, a standard cross-border bank transfer between the two countries typically requires anywhere from three to four hours, and often longer depending on intermediary banking relationships, operational hours, and compliance checks.

The operational success of the pilot relied heavily on specialized fintech and internal infrastructure. Tether reported that the test utilized Axiym’s settlement infrastructure to handle the digital movement of value. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card designed the overarching remittance structure and took charge of overseeing the strict regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational frameworks necessary to support the proof of concept within a tightly regulated corporate environment.

The primary objective of the pilot was to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be seamlessly integrated into existing enterprise treasury operations without forcing companies to alter their established corporate governance, regulatory compliance, or accounting workflows. Following the success of this initial test, the corporate partners plan to expand their testing phase to encompass additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as they continue to evaluate the broader implications for enterprise treasury workflows.

Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case

Corporate treasury functions have rapidly emerged as a primary battleground and focus area for stablecoin companies and financial technology providers. Across the global financial landscape, firms are rolling out enterprise-grade products specifically designed to support international payments, liquidity management, and complex intercompany settlements.

This growing trend toward digital asset integration in mainstream corporate finance is underscored by a series of high-profile partnerships and technological developments across the sector. In April, major treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This strategic collaboration was designed to empower corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances alongside traditional cash positions within a single dashboard. Furthermore, the integration allows businesses to settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, while unlocking access to crucial liquidity outside of traditional banking hours by leveraging existing corporate treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Empirical data from the broader fintech ecosystem further highlights the accelerating demand for blockchain-based liquidity solutions. A comprehensive Bitso Business report published this month revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This dramatic expansion was primarily fueled by rising corporate demand for real-time settlement, sophisticated treasury management, and efficient cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during this period consisted of traditional financial institutions, including established banks and licensed payment providers looking to modernize their operational capabilities.

Business surveys continuously point to a steady, upward trajectory in enterprise adoption. A June Paybis report found that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international business payments or have concrete plans to implement them within the next twelve months. Citing extensive research from McKinsey, the report highlighted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in total global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This institutional push into blockchain settlement coincides with a period of robust overall growth for the broader digital asset market. According to data compiled by DefiLlama, the total market capitalization of the stablecoin sector has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing an increase of roughly 21.5% from $257.1 billion a year earlier. Amid this expanding market, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its dominant position as the largest stablecoin by total market value, serving as the foundational asset for major cross-border corporate experiments like Hyundai’s recent milestone pilot.
