Hyundai Motor Completes Cross-Border Treasury Trial Using Tether’s USDT on Avalanche

Hyundai Motor’s United States and Mexican corporate divisions have successfully completed a landmark pilot program involving a cross-border treasury transfer executed entirely with Tether’s USDT stablecoin. The proof of concept, which settled a $20,000 corporate payment in approximately seven minutes, represents a significant step forward in the integration of blockchain technology into traditional enterprise financial operations.

According to details shared by Tether, the transaction involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, transferring the stablecoin across borders to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the assets back into fiat US dollars upon arrival. The entire end-to-end transfer and verification procedure was completed in roughly seven minutes. This stands in stark contrast to traditional legacy cross-border bank transfers, which typically require anywhere from three to four hours—and frequently longer depending on correspondent banking networks, time zones, and compliance bottlenecks.

The pilot infrastructure was built using Axiym’s settlement solutions, while Hyundai Card played a critical role by designing the underlying remittance structure. Furthermore, Hyundai Card oversaw the rigorous regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the proof of concept within a tightly regulated multinational corporate environment.

The primary objective of the trial was to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be smoothly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without requiring disruptive changes to underlying corporate governance, compliance frameworks, or accounting processes. Following the success of this initial trial phase, the participating companies plan to expand their testing parameters to additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as they continue to evaluate broader enterprise treasury workflows and automation capabilities.

Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case

Corporate treasury has rapidly evolved into one of the most critical and fast-growing focus areas for stablecoin issuers and blockchain infrastructure providers. Financial technology firms and enterprise software developers have increasingly rolled out specialized products designed explicitly to support streamlined cross-border payments, efficient liquidity management, and frictionless intercompany settlement.

The broader enterprise push into blockchain-based settlement is underscored by a series of major developments across the financial technology sector. In April, prominent enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This strategic collaboration allows corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances alongside traditional cash positions seamlessly. Furthermore, it enables organizations to settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, while unlocking access to crucial liquidity outside of traditional banking hours by leveraging existing corporate treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Market data and institutional reporting further highlight the explosive growth in enterprise demand. A Bitso Business report published this month revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This dramatic increase was propelled largely by sustained corporate demand for real-time settlement capabilities, advanced treasury management tools, and reliable cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of new business clients onboarded by the platform during this period consisted of established financial institutions, including traditional banks and licensed payment service providers.

Business surveys continuously point toward expanding mainstream enterprise adoption. A June Paybis report found that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international payments or actively plan to integrate them into their operations within the next 12 months. Citing extensive research from management consulting firm McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in total global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This enterprise-driven momentum coincides with the continued expansion of the broader digital asset economy. According to metrics from DefiLlama, the total market capitalization of the stablecoin sector has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing an increase of roughly 21.5% compared to the $257.1 billion recorded a year earlier. Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its position as the largest stablecoin by total market value, serving as the primary asset underpinning many of these pioneering corporate treasury trials.
