Hyundai Motor Completes Cross-Border Stablecoin Treasury Transfer Using Tether and Avalanche

Automotive giant Hyundai Motor has successfully executed a pilot cross-border treasury transfer using Tether’s USDT stablecoin, marking another milestone for blockchain adoption in corporate finance. The transaction, valued at $20,000, was conducted between the company’s United States and Mexican corporate units using the Avalanche blockchain.

According to details provided by Tether, the cross-border operation demonstrated how multinational corporations can leverage decentralized ledger technology to dramatically reduce settlement times for intercompany payments. During the proof of concept, Hyundai Motor America converted the funds into USDT, transferred the digital asset across the Avalanche network to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converted the stablecoin back into local fiat currency.

The entire transfer and verification lifecycle took approximately seven minutes to complete. In stark contrast, traditional cross-border banking rails typically require anywhere from three to four hours—and often significantly longer depending on intermediary banking relationships, time zones, and compliance bottlenecks—to clear similar international wire transfers.

The financial architecture behind the pilot relied on specialized technological and operational frameworks. Tether noted that the test utilized Axiym’s settlement infrastructure. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card designed the specific remittance structure for the project and maintained direct oversight over the regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to execute the proof of concept successfully.

The overarching goal of the initiative was to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement systems could be seamlessly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without forcing companies to disrupt their established internal governance, compliance protocols, or accounting workflows. Building on the success of this initial test, the participating companies plan to advance the project into a subsequent phase. This next stage will expand testing to encompass additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as the enterprise evaluates broader corporate treasury workflows for long-term integration.

Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case

Corporate treasury operations have rapidly evolved into a primary focal point for the stablecoin industry. Across the financial technology and crypto sectors, firms are actively rolling out specialized software products and institutional solutions designed to support real-time cross-border payments, optimize liquidity management, and streamline intercompany settlements.

This institutional momentum is visible across multiple enterprise partnerships and financial reports. Earlier this year, in April, prominent treasury management software provider Kyriba announced a partnership with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This collaboration was designed to give corporate treasury teams the ability to manage stablecoin balances alongside traditional cash positions within a single interface. By adopting these integrations, businesses can settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time while maintaining access to liquidity outside of traditional banking hours, all while utilizing their existing corporate treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Complementing these software integrations, data from business-to-business platforms points to explosive growth in institutional transaction volumes. A Bitso Business report published this month revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This dramatic increase was driven heavily by corporate demand for real-time settlement capabilities, efficient treasury management tools, and seamless cross-border liquidity solutions. Furthermore, the report highlighted that more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during the period consisted of regulated financial institutions, including traditional commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Broader business surveys echo this sentiment, indicating rising enterprise adoption across various global industries. A June report published by Paybis found that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international commercial payments or actively plan to incorporate them into their operations within the next 12 months. Citing comprehensive research from McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This institutional push into enterprise workflows coincides with a period of steady expansion for the wider stablecoin market. Market data compiled by DefiLlama shows that the total market capitalization of the stablecoin sector has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion. This figure represents an increase of roughly 21.5% compared to the $257.1 billion recorded a year earlier, with Tether’s USDT maintaining its position as the largest stablecoin by total market capitalization.
