Hyundai Motor’s United States and Mexican corporate divisions have successfully completed a pilot cross-border treasury transfer using Tether’s USDT stablecoin, settling a $20,000 transaction in approximately seven minutes on the Avalanche blockchain. The trial marks a significant step forward for traditional automotive manufacturing giants exploring decentralized financial infrastructure to streamline legacy corporate banking practices.
According to details provided by Tether, the cross-border operation began when Hyundai Motor America converted corporate funds into USDT. The stablecoin was then transferred digitally across the network to Hyundai Motor Mexico, where it was subsequently converted back into traditional US dollars. The entire end-to-end transfer and verification process took roughly seven minutes. By comparison, a conventional cross-border bank transfer for a similar transaction typically requires anywhere from three to four hours, and often stretches across multiple business days depending on intermediary banking relationships and geographic time zones.
The successful pilot relied on specialized technological infrastructure. Tether noted that the proof of concept utilized Axiym’s settlement infrastructure to manage the digital asset movement. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card designed the overarching remittance structure and closely oversaw all regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the controlled test.
The primary objective of the pilot was to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be smoothly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without forcing the multinational enterprise to alter its established governance, compliance, or internal accounting frameworks. Following the successful completion of this initial phase, the participating companies plan to expand their testing parameters. The next phase will introduce additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as the corporate teams evaluate broader enterprise treasury workflows and assess scalability.

Corporate treasury has rapidly emerged as a key use case for stablecoins as digital asset infrastructure matures. Stablecoin issuers and financial technology firms have increasingly rolled out specialized products explicitly designed to support corporate cross-border payments, liquidity management, and intercompany settlements, targeting inefficiencies deeply embedded in traditional banking systems.
This trend is visible across the broader financial technology landscape. In April, major enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This strategic collaboration allows corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances alongside standard fiat cash positions, settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, and access essential liquidity outside of traditional banking hours while utilizing their pre-existing enterprise workflows and internal approval controls.
Empirical data from digital asset service providers further underscores the growing institutional appetite for these technologies. A Bitso Business report published this month revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This dramatic increase was primarily driven by surging enterprise demand for real-time settlement capabilities, efficient treasury management, and reliable cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of new business clients onboarded by the platform during that period consisted of traditional financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.
Broader business surveys similarly point toward steadily accelerating enterprise adoption. A June Paybis report found that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international corporate payments or actively plan to implement them within the next 12 months. Citing extensive research from McKinsey, the report highlighted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in total global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.
This ongoing enterprise push unfolds against the backdrop of a steadily expanding broader stablecoin market. Total stablecoin market capitalization has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing an increase of roughly 21.5% from the $257.1 billion recorded a year earlier, according to on-chain data tracking from DefiLlama. Amid this broader market growth, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its position as the largest stablecoin by total market value, serving as the primary liquidity vehicle for both retail and institutional operations across the globe.
