Hyundai Motor Units Complete Cross-Border Treasury Transfer Using Tether USDT on Avalanche Blockchain

Automotive giant Hyundai Motor has taken a significant step toward modernizing its financial operations after its United States and Mexican units successfully completed a pilot cross-border treasury transfer using Tether’s USDT stablecoin. The proof-of-concept transaction, valued at $20,000, was settled on the Avalanche blockchain in approximately seven minutes, highlighting the growing utility of blockchain technology in traditional corporate finance and multinational liquidity management.

According to details shared by Tether, the operational workflow involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, transferring the stablecoin across the digital network to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the digital asset back into fiat US dollars upon arrival. The entire end-to-end transfer and verification process took roughly seven minutes. This timeline represents a dramatic acceleration compared to traditional cross-border banking corridors, which typically require three to four hours—and frequently longer depending on intermediary banking relationships, time zones, and compliance bottlenecks.

The successful pilot relied on specialized technological and organizational infrastructure. Tether noted that the test utilized Axiym’s settlement infrastructure to handle the backend mechanics. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card designed the specialized remittance structure and closely oversaw the regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the proof of concept within a secure corporate environment.

The primary objective of the pilot was to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be seamlessly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without requiring disruptive changes to underlying governance, compliance, or accounting protocols. Following the success of this initial test, the participating companies plan to expand their evaluation to additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as they continue to assess broader enterprise treasury workflows and potential long-term efficiencies.

Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case

The initiative underscores a broader trend across the global financial landscape, where corporate treasury has rapidly emerged as a critical focus area for stablecoin issuers and enterprise software providers alike. Financial technology firms and infrastructure developers have increasingly rolled out products specifically designed to support international payments, liquidity management, and intercompany settlements using digital assets.

This enterprise push is mirrored by parallel developments throughout the software and payments sectors. In April, prominent enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its corporate platform. That collaboration was engineered to allow corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances side-by-side with traditional cash positions, settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, and access essential liquidity outside of traditional banking hours while maintaining their established internal workflows and supervisory approval controls.

Data from payment processors and business networks further illustrates accelerating enterprise adoption. A report published this month by Bitso Business revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This substantial growth was largely fueled by rising corporate demand for real-time settlement solutions, streamlined treasury management, and efficient cross-border liquidity mechanisms. Notably, over 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during the period consisted of established financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Broader market surveys reinforce these growth indicators, pointing to a permanent shift in how businesses handle international commerce. A June research report published by Paybis found that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international payments or actively plan to implement them within the subsequent 12 months. Citing extensive research from McKinsey, the report highlighted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in aggregate global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This institutional and enterprise migration toward digital currencies coincides with an overall expansion of the broader stablecoin sector. Market data from DefiLlama indicates that the total market capitalization of the stablecoin industry has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion. This figure represents an increase of roughly 21.5% compared to the $257.1 billion valuation recorded exactly one year prior, with Tether’s USDT maintaining its position as the largest stablecoin by total market capitalization.
