Hyundai completes USDT treasury settlement pilot between US and Mexico

According to details provided by stablecoin issuer Tether, the proof-of-concept transaction involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, transferring the digital asset across the border to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the stablecoin back into traditional US dollars. The entire end-to-end transfer and cryptographic verification process took roughly seven minutes to execute. This dramatic reduction in processing time stands in stark contrast to traditional cross-border banking rails, which routinely require anywhere from three to four hours—and frequently multiple business days depending on intermediary correspondent banking networks and time zone differences.

The pilot was executed using Axiym’s settlement infrastructure, while Hyundai Card played a critical role by designing the remittance structure. Furthermore, Hyundai Card oversaw the rigorous regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the initiative safely and transparently. By embedding strict compliance guardrails into the trial, the project team sought to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be seamlessly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without requiring disruptive changes to internal corporate governance, compliance protocols, or standard accounting practices.

Following the success of this initial proof of concept, the participating companies plan to advance to a subsequent testing phase. This next stage will expand the scope of experimentation to additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as the enterprise continues to evaluate broader, more comprehensive enterprise treasury workflows. The ambition is to understand how blockchain-enabled rails can permanently optimize liquidity management across international subsidiaries.

Corporate treasury has rapidly emerged as one of the most vital and high-potential use cases for digital stablecoin infrastructure. Major global financial technology firms and software providers are aggressively rolling out enterprise-grade products designed explicitly to support streamlined cross-border payments, sophisticated liquidity management, and instantaneous intercompany settlements.

The broader industry trend is underscored by major software integrations. In April, prominent enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its corporate treasury platform. This strategic collaboration empowers corporate treasury teams to monitor and manage stablecoin balances alongside conventional cash positions within a unified dashboard. Furthermore, it enables businesses to settle eligible cross-border and intercompany transactions in near-real time, unlocking crucial access to liquidity outside of traditional banking hours while relying on existing corporate treasury workflows, approval controls, and risk management parameters.

Institutional demand is similarly reflected in recent data from digital asset platforms operating within corporate and financial sectors. A comprehensive Bitso Business report published this month revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its institutional platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This exponential growth was heavily propelled by rising corporate demand for real-time settlement capabilities, advanced treasury management tools, and resilient cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of new business clients onboarded by the platform during this period consisted of established financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Broader business surveys and market analyses point to an accelerating trajectory of mainstream enterprise adoption. A June Paybis report highlighted that roughly 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international B2B payments or actively intend to incorporate them into their financial operations within the next 12 months. Citing extensive research from McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for approximately 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume observed throughout 2025.

This expanding enterprise footprint coincides with robust overall growth across the broader digital asset economy. Total stablecoin market capitalization has climbed steadily to reach approximately $312.3 billion, representing an increase of roughly 21.5% compared to the $257.1 billion recorded a year prior, according to data compiled by DefiLlama. Within this expanding sector, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its position as the largest stablecoin by total market valuation, serving as a primary liquidity layer for both crypto-native applications and emerging corporate finance use cases.
