Hyundai Motor Tests Cross-Border Treasury Transfers Using Tether’s USDT on Avalanche Blockchain

Automotive giant Hyundai Motor has successfully completed a pilot cross-border treasury transfer using Tether’s USDT stablecoin, marking another milestone for blockchain adoption in enterprise finance. The transaction, valued at $20,000, was executed between the company’s United States and Mexican units and settled in approximately seven minutes on the Avalanche blockchain, highlighting the potential speed and efficiency gains of digital assets in traditional corporate operations.

According to details provided by Tether, the cross-border operation involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, transferring the stablecoin across the Avalanche network to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the digital assets back into traditional US dollars. The entire transfer, execution, and verification process took roughly seven minutes. This stands in stark contrast to traditional cross-border bank transfers, which typically require three to four hours or significantly longer depending on correspondent banking networks, time zones, and intermediary clearing houses.

The successful proof of concept was built on a collaborative framework involving multiple specialized entities. Tether noted that the pilot utilized Axiym’s settlement infrastructure to handle the digital asset transfer layer. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card designed the overarching remittance structure and closely oversaw the regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the initiative safely within established corporate frameworks.

The primary objective of the pilot was to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be seamlessly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without requiring disruptive changes to internal governance, regulatory compliance, or accounting processes. Following the success of this initial trial, the companies are planning a subsequent phase that will expand testing to additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as they continue to evaluate broader enterprise treasury workflows and digital asset applications.

Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case

Corporate treasury management has rapidly emerged as a critical focal point for stablecoin issuers and blockchain infrastructure providers. Financial technology firms and enterprise software providers are increasingly rolling out specialized products designed to support cross-border payments, optimize liquidity management, and streamline complex intercompany settlements for multinational corporations.

This enterprise trend has gained significant momentum across the broader financial ecosystem. In April, major treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This strategic collaboration allows corporate treasury teams to monitor and manage stablecoin balances alongside conventional cash positions within a single interface. Furthermore, it enables businesses to settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, unlocking liquidity access well outside traditional banking hours while utilizing pre-existing corporate treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Market data underscores the accelerating adoption of digital assets for corporate utility. A comprehensive Bitso Business report published this month revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This impressive growth was primarily driven by surging corporate demand for real-time settlement solutions, efficient treasury management, and robust cross-border liquidity mechanisms. Notably, over 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during the period consisted of traditional financial institutions, including established banks and licensed payment service providers.

Broader business surveys and industry research further reinforce the narrative of expanding enterprise integration. A June Paybis report highlighted that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international commercial payments or actively plan to implement them within the upcoming 12 months. Citing extensive research from McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in total global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This institutional and enterprise push is occurring against the backdrop of continuous expansion within the wider stablecoin market. According to tracking data from DefiLlama, the total market capitalization of the stablecoin sector has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion. This figure represents a notable increase of roughly 21.5% compared to the $257.1 billion recorded a year earlier, with Tether’s USDT firmly maintaining its position as the largest stablecoin by total market valuation.
