Hyundai Motor Completes Cross-Border Stablecoin Treasury Trial Using USDT on Avalanche

Automotive giant Hyundai Motor has successfully executed a pilot cross-border treasury transfer using Tether’s USDT stablecoin, marking a notable step forward in the integration of blockchain technology into traditional corporate financial operations.

In the proof-of-concept transaction, Hyundai Motor’s United States and Mexican units settled a $20,000 payment in approximately seven minutes utilizing the Avalanche blockchain. According to details shared by stablecoin issuer Tether, Hyundai Motor America converted the funds into USDT, transferred the digital asset across the border to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converted the stablecoins back into fiat US dollars upon arrival.

The entire transfer and verification procedure took roughly seven minutes. This stands in stark contrast to traditional cross-border banking mechanisms, which typically require three to four hours—and often significantly longer depending on intermediary banking relationships, time zones, and compliance bottlenecks.

The successful pilot relied on specialized technological infrastructure and rigorous internal oversight. Tether noted that the trial utilized settlement infrastructure provided by Axiym, while Hyundai Card engineered the broader remittance structure. Furthermore, Hyundai Card oversaw the complex array of regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support a secure and legally sound proof of concept.

The initiative was deliberately structured to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms can be seamlessly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without requiring modifications to underlying governance, compliance, or accounting protocols. Following the successful completion of this initial phase, the companies intend to expand their testing parameters. Future phases will evaluate additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as the participating firms continue to analyze broader enterprise treasury workflows and potential long-term applications.

Corporate treasury emerges as key stablecoin use case

Corporate treasury management has rapidly emerged as a critical battleground and primary use case for stablecoin issuers and fintech infrastructure providers. Across the global financial landscape, companies are increasingly rolling out enterprise-focused products designed to streamline cross-border payments, optimize liquidity management, and accelerate intercompany settlements.

The broader industry trend is underscored by a series of high-profile integrations and partnerships. In April, treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This collaboration was designed to empower corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances alongside conventional cash positions, execute eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, and access vital liquidity outside of traditional banking hours while maintaining their established internal workflows and corporate approval controls.

Empirical data from major digital asset platforms highlights accelerating adoption among commercial clients. A Bitso Business report published earlier this month revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This impressive growth was primarily propelled by escalating commercial demand for real-time settlement capabilities, efficient treasury management, and frictionless cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during this period consisted of traditional financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Independent business surveys further reinforce the narrative of widening enterprise adoption. A June study published by Paybis found that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international commercial payments or actively intend to incorporate them into their financial operations within the next 12 months. Citing extensive research from management consultancy McKinsey, the report highlighted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This expanding corporate footprint coincides with broader macroeconomic growth across the digital asset sector. Data compiled by DefiLlama indicates that the total market capitalization of the stablecoin industry has climbed to roughly $312.3 billion, representing an increase of approximately 21.5% compared to the $257.1 billion recorded a year earlier. Within this expanding market, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its position as the largest stablecoin by total market valuation, serving as the primary liquidity backbone for both retail and institutional crypto transactions worldwide.
