Tokenized Stocks Surge as Off-Hours Trading Highlights Onchain Advantages

Most trading in tokenized stocks on major blockchains now takes place outside regular US market hours, offering an early indication that around-the-clock trading could be one of the biggest advantages of putting equities onchain. Rather than simply mirroring traditional financial market sessions, digital asset investors are increasingly utilizing the 24/7 nature of decentralized networks to execute trades when conventional exchanges are closed.

According to Blockworks data cited by financial market monitor The Kobeissi Letter, more than 70% of tokenized stock trading volume on BNB Chain occurs outside the traditional 9:30 am to 4 pm Eastern trading session. The figures demonstrate a similar trend across other leading blockchains, with off-hours volume reaching 63% on Solana and nearly 60% on Base.

This heavy reliance on non-traditional trading windows suggests that market participants are actively leveraging tokenized assets for flexibility and continuous price discovery, filling a gap left by conventional stock markets that shutter their doors overnight, on weekends, and during public holidays. The utility of these products is further underscored by Jupiter, a major Solana-based trading platform, which recently reported a 50% month-over-month increase in its tokenized asset trading volume.

The broader sector is also experiencing robust financial expansion. Tokenized stock values have increased by 15% over the past 30 days, bringing the total market capitalization of these assets to nearly $3.3 billion, according to data from RWA.xyz. A significant portion of that total value is heavily concentrated among prominent issuers such as Ondo Global Markets, xStocks, and bStocks, whose digital tokens are issued and traded across a variety of distinct blockchain networks.

As tokenized equities gain traction across decentralized ecosystems, Wall Street is increasingly taking notice, with traditional financial institutions and regulators alike beginning to adapt to a landscape where traditional boundaries between crypto and traditional equities are beginning to blur.

The remarkable growth in round-the-clock trading comes at a pivotal moment as US regulators begin opening the door to tokenized equities in traditional markets. Last month, the Securities and Exchange Commission introduced a temporary "innovation exemption" designed to allow qualifying venues to trade tokenized US-listed stocks directly on public blockchains.

This regulatory shift represents a notable milestone for the evolution of market structure. SEC Commissioner Mark Uyeda outlined that participating venues operating under the exemption must publish transaction data transparently in US dollars. This requirement includes making trade prices, individual trade sizes, accurate timestamps, and daily trading volumes publicly available. Furthermore, these venues are mandated to disclose specific liquidity pool addresses and their corresponding balances to ensure market integrity and transparency.

However, a distinct regulatory divide remains between domestic offerings and existing decentralized products. Unlike existing tokenized stock products such as xStocks and Ondo Global Markets—which are generally unavailable to US retail investors due to regulatory restrictions—the SEC’s new temporary exemption allows qualifying venues to offer tokenized US equities directly to domestic participants. This permission is granted under the strict condition that these venues properly preserve traditional shareholder rights while simultaneously meeting all required trading and disclosure criteria set forth by the agency.

As these regulatory frameworks slowly evolve and onchain adoption continues to accelerate, the intersection of traditional equity markets and blockchain infrastructure appears poised for continued transformation, driven heavily by investor demand for continuous liquidity and 24/7 market access.
