Hyundai completes USDT treasury settlement pilot between US and Mexico

According to details provided by stablecoin issuer Tether, the transaction workflow involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, securely transferring the digital asset across the blockchain network to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the stablecoin back into local fiat currency. The entire end-to-end transfer and verification process was completed in just seven minutes. By comparison, traditional cross-border bank transfers for similar international corridors typically take anywhere from three to four hours, and often significantly longer depending on intermediary banking relationships, time zones, and compliance bottlenecks.

The pilot infrastructure relied heavily on collaborative technical and operational structuring. Tether noted that the proof of concept utilized Axiym’s specialized settlement infrastructure. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card played a critical role in designing the overall remittance structure, directly overseeing the complex regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational frameworks required to support the corporate test.

The primary objective of the pilot was to rigorously evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be seamlessly integrated into existing enterprise treasury operations without disrupting established governance, compliance, or accounting protocols. Building on the success of this initial trial, the participating companies plan to advance the initiative into a next phase of testing. This upcoming phase will expand the scope to additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as the organizations continue to evaluate broader enterprise treasury workflows and long-term viability.

Corporate treasury emerges as key stablecoin use case

Corporate treasury management has rapidly emerged as one of the most vital and high-potential use cases for the stablecoin industry. Financial technology providers and blockchain firms alike are increasingly rolling out sophisticated enterprise products specifically designed to support streamlined cross-border payments, efficient liquidity management, and frictionless intercompany settlements.

The broader financial sector has begun embracing this shift through strategic integrations and enterprise-grade software updates. In April, major treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This collaboration was designed to empower corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances side-by-side with traditional cash positions. Furthermore, the integration allows businesses to settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, unlocking access to vital liquidity outside of traditional banking hours while maintaining their existing enterprise treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Empirical data from business platforms further underscores the surging institutional interest in digital asset liquidity. A comprehensive report published this month by Bitso Business revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by an impressive 81% year over year during the first half of the year. This remarkable growth was primarily driven by escalating corporate demand for real-time settlement capabilities, enhanced treasury management tools, and reliable cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during this period consisted of traditional financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Broader business surveys consistently point toward accelerating enterprise adoption across multiple global markets. A June report published by Paybis indicated that roughly 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international payments or actively plan to integrate them into their operations within the next twelve months. Citing extensive research from management consultancy McKinsey, the report highlighted that business-to-business transactions accounted for approximately 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume observed over the previous year.

This steady enterprise push unfolds against the backdrop of an expanding overall stablecoin market. Data compiled by DefiLlama shows that the total market capitalization of the stablecoin sector has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing a robust 21.5% increase from the $257.1 billion recorded a year prior. Within this expanding market, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its dominant position as the largest stablecoin by total market capitalization, serving as the foundational asset for major institutional pilots like the one executed by Hyundai’s North American divisions.
