Hyundai Motor Accelerates Enterprise Treasury with Successful Cross-Border Stablecoin Transfer Pilot

Automotive giant Hyundai Motor has successfully completed a pioneering cross-border treasury transfer pilot utilizing Tether’s USDT stablecoin, marking a significant milestone for corporate blockchain adoption. The transaction, valued at $20,000, was executed between Hyundai Motor’s United States and Mexican corporate units using the Avalanche blockchain. The entire process—from the initial conversion to the final settlement—was completed in approximately seven minutes, highlighting the vast efficiency gains that distributed ledger technology can offer legacy corporate financial operations.

According to details provided by Tether, the operational workflow required Hyundai Motor America to convert standard corporate funds into USDT. This stablecoin was then transferred digitally across the border to Hyundai Motor Mexico, where it was subsequently converted back into local fiat currency. The entire verification and settlement lifecycle took only about seven minutes. In stark contrast, traditional cross-border bank transfers typically require anywhere from three to four hours to multiple business days, depending on intermediary banking relationships, time zones, and clearinghouse hours.

The successful proof-of-concept pilot was built on top of Axiym’s specialized settlement infrastructure. Furthermore, Hyundai Card played a crucial role in the initiative by designing the underlying remittance structure. The financial arm of the automotive conglomerate also oversaw the rigorous regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to ensure the pilot met all necessary corporate governance standards.

Enterprise treasury integration served as the primary objective of the pilot. The experiment was specifically structured to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement systems could be seamlessly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without requiring disruptive changes to core governance, compliance frameworks, or accounting processes. Following the success of this initial trial, the companies are now preparing for a subsequent phase. This next stage of testing will expand the technology to additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as the enterprise evaluates broader, long-term treasury workflows involving digital assets.

Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case

Corporate treasury management has rapidly evolved into one of the most critical focus areas for stablecoin issuers and blockchain infrastructure providers. Financial technology firms and enterprise software developers have increasingly rolled out dedicated products designed to support complex cross-border payments, optimize liquidity management, and streamline intercompany settlements.

This enterprise push has gained considerable momentum across the software ecosystem. In April, major enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its corporate treasury platform. This strategic collaboration allows enterprise treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances side-by-side with traditional cash positions. Furthermore, it empowers corporations to settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, while granting them access to crucial liquidity outside of traditional banking hours, all while maintaining their existing treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Data from the broader financial sector underscores this surging demand. A report published this month by Bitso Business revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This impressive growth was primarily propelled by corporate demand for real-time settlement capabilities, advanced treasury management tools, and efficient cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during this period consisted of traditional financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Business surveys continuously point toward widening enterprise adoption of digital assets for day-to-day operations. A June Paybis report found that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international payments or actively plan to incorporate them into their financial operations within the next 12 months. Citing extensive research from McKinsey, the report highlighted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume observed throughout 2025.

This steady wave of enterprise adoption coincides with the broader expansion of the global stablecoin market. Total stablecoin market capitalization has continued its upward trajectory, climbing to approximately $312.3 billion. This represents a robust increase of roughly 21.5% compared to the $257.1 billion market capitalization recorded a year prior, according to data compiled by DefiLlama. Amid this growth, Tether’s USDT remains firmly positioned as the largest stablecoin in the digital asset ecosystem by total market value, continuing to drive high-value utility across both retail and institutional use cases.
