Zcash Extends Triple-Digit Rally as Developers Lock In November 5 for NU7 Mainnet Activation

Zcash (ZEC) has extended its impressive triple-digit year-to-date gains, surging roughly 12% over a 24-hour period as core developers officially agreed on a mainnet activation block for the network’s highly anticipated NU7 upgrade, which is now squarely targeted for early November.

Trading around $1,270 during mid-week market activity according to CoinGecko data, the privacy-focused cryptocurrency’s latest upward momentum coincides directly with a GitHub proposal submitted by Zcash developer Sean Bowe. The proposal sets the formal mainnet activation height at block 3,543,405, an operational milestone anticipated to be reached on or around November 5.

The valuation of the privacy-centric cryptocurrency, which relies heavily on advanced and trustless zero-knowledge proofs to maintain transactional confidentiality, has demonstrated remarkable strength over the course of the year. Boosted by broader market tailwinds and anticipation surrounding upcoming technical enhancements, Zcash’s token price is currently up more than 148% year to date, outperforming several legacy alternative assets and capturing renewed attention from traders and privacy advocates alike.

"Height agreed at ZIP editor meeting," Bowe wrote in the accompanying developer update, noting that while consensus has been achieved on the target block height, the engineering team still needs to finalize a few remaining upgrade specifications before formally merging the proposal into the main codebase. The proposal has already received foundational approval from at least two key developers, signaling broad internal alignment as the deployment date approaches.

Further corroborating the timeline, the Zakura NU7 tracking dashboard also lists the upcoming upgrade as currently pending on the mainnet at the designated block height of 3,543,405, maintaining the projected November 5 activation window.

The NU7 network upgrade represents a major architectural milestone for the blockchain, aiming to drastically reduce Zcash’s target block time by two-thirds, bringing it down to just 25 seconds. By accelerating the cadence at which new blocks are minted, the network will allow transactions to receive confirmations significantly faster than under the current framework. The transition from the legacy 75-second block time has been undergoing rigorous testing in dedicated environments since early October, allowing developers to monitor network stability and performance under simulated conditions.

However, as the countdown to the mainnet activation continues, technical preparations remain ongoing. According to the Zcash Foundation’s NU7 readiness tracker, six out of 12 planned readiness tasks have been successfully completed. The remaining work involves addressing specific Zebra node synchronization issues and carrying out essential mainnet preparations to ensure a seamless transition for node operators and infrastructure providers. As of yet, core developers have not formally confirmed whether these outstanding synchronization challenges could impact the planned November 5 activation date, leaving the community to monitor ongoing GitHub updates and repository activity closely.

The impending mainnet rollout follows a successful testnet activation phase that took place earlier in October, providing developers with valuable telemetry data regarding the behavior of the accelerated block times and zero-knowledge proof verification pipelines in a live distributed setting. As the crypto market digests the news of the finalized block height and the substantial price appreciation, market participants continue to weigh both the technological promise of faster transaction finality and the operational readiness of the network’s underlying node software.
