Hyundai Motor Tests Cross-Border Treasury Settlement Using Tether’s USDT on Avalanche

Hyundai Motor’s United States and Mexican corporate divisions have successfully completed a landmark pilot program involving a cross-border treasury transfer executed entirely through digital assets. The automotive giant settled a $20,000 corporate payment utilizing Tether’s USDT stablecoin, completing the transaction in approximately seven minutes on the Avalanche blockchain network.

According to disclosure details provided by Tether, the transaction workflow involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, transferring the stablecoin across the blockchain network to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the digital asset back into traditional US dollars upon arrival. The entire end-to-end transfer and verification process took roughly seven minutes. This stands in stark contrast to traditional legacy cross-border bank transfers, which typically require anywhere from three to four hours—and frequently much longer depending on intermediary banking relationships, time zones, and weekend banking schedules.

The pilot infrastructure relied heavily on specialized digital asset plumbing. Tether noted that the operational trial utilized Axiym’s dedicated settlement infrastructure. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card played a pivotal role in designing the overall remittance structure while meticulously overseeing the complex regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the foundational proof of concept.

The primary objective of the pilot was to rigorously evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be smoothly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without requiring disruptive changes to internal governance frameworks, regulatory compliance protocols, or standard accounting practices. Following the success of this initial trial phase, the participating companies plan to expand their testing parameters. The next phase will scale stablecoin testing to additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as management evaluates broader enterprise treasury workflows for future deployment.

Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case

Corporate treasury management has rapidly evolved into an increasingly vital strategic focus for stablecoin issuers and blockchain infrastructure providers. Financial technology firms are aggressively rolling out specialized enterprise products explicitly designed to support streamlined cross-border payments, efficient liquidity management, and frictionless intercompany settlements.

The movement toward blockchain-based corporate finance is supported by a growing wave of enterprise-grade integrations. In April, prominent treasury management software provider Kyriba formed a strategic partnership with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This collaboration empowers corporate treasury teams to monitor and manage stablecoin balances alongside conventional cash positions within a unified interface. Furthermore, it enables businesses to settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, while unlocking access to crucial liquidity outside traditional banking hours by leveraging existing corporate treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Empirical data from major digital asset platforms highlights accelerating adoption among institutional clients. A comprehensive Bitso Business report published this month revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This dramatic expansion was primarily driven by corporate demand for real-time settlement capabilities, sophisticated treasury management tools, and efficient cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during the period consisted of established financial institutions, including regulated commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Broader business surveys similarly point toward steadily rising enterprise integration of blockchain rails. A June Paybis market report indicated that 22.5% of surveyed commercial businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international business payments or actively plan to incorporate them into their financial operations within the next 12 months. Citing detailed research from management consulting firm McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in total global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This institutional push into enterprise blockchain applications coincides with the broader, ongoing expansion of the global stablecoin market. Total stablecoin market capitalization has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing a robust 21.5% increase from $257.1 billion recorded a year earlier, according to tracking data from DefiLlama. Amid this expanding ecosystem, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its dominant position as the largest stablecoin by total market value, serving as the primary liquidity vehicle for cross-border enterprise initiatives such as the recent Hyundai pilot.
